Barbara (Clawson) Smyers, 80, of Homer City, PA passed away June 10, 2025, at her home. She was the daughter of Dory and Roxie Clawson. She lived almost her entire life in the same neighborhood. She formed many special relationships with neighbors that she still enjoyed to present day. Barb was affectionately known as “Grandma Smyers” by the Cikowski Family. She also was a member of the Hopewell United Methodist Church.
She was married to Robert Smyers for 46 years until his passing in 2011. Together they raised 3 children. They enjoyed traveling together and were able to make it to every state before they retired. All along the way, she made numerous life-long friends.
Barb worked for Homer-Center cafeteria while her children were in school and Comet Food Warehouse (from the day it opened until it closed). She finished her career at S&T Bank.
She enjoyed going on bus trips in later years. The employees of Repine travel and Mlaker bus company and many of their customers hold a special place in her heart. Thank you to all of them who were so kind to her and assisted her along the way. Casino trips were one of her favorites.
Her friends and neighbors were so numerous we cannot possibly acknowledge each one individually. You know that if you were her friend she truly loved each and every one of you. The kindness and support you showed throughout the friendship and during her very rough days of illness were exceptional and very much appreciated.
Barb is survived by her beloved daughter, Brenda Duffy and her husband Robert who lovingly cared for her every day. Her beloved son, Douglas (Red) Smyers, Newport News Virginia; beloved grandchildren Julia (Brian) Lander, New Jersey and James Paynter of Brush Valley; and nephew Stephen Kuchy of St. Mary, Pa.
Surviving her also are her brothers in law: Ken Smyers of Karthaus, Keith (Connie) Smyers and Kevin (Kenna) Smyers of Marion Center; sisters in law: Donna Dunmire of Rochester Mills; Naomi Cochran of Blairsville; and Eileen (John) Rougeaux of Indiana. Naomi was truly a blessing to her as she was the sister she never had. Numerous cousins, nieces and nephews also survive her.
She was predeceased by her parents, her only sibling Dory (Dobe) Clawson, infant son Roger (1965) and son Timothy (2024).
The family will receive friends on Friday, June 13, 2025, from 1-3 PM and 5-7 PM at the Shoemaker Funeral Home, Inc 49 N. Walnut St., Blairsville.
