Beverly “Bev” Doak Grimes, 72, originally from Blairsville, PA, passed away on Monday, April 27, 2026, in Plano, TX.

Born on October 14, 1953, Bev was the daughter of the late John and Louise Doak of Blairsville. Previously a member of the Blairsville Christian & Missionary Alliance Church, Bev most recently called Parkway Hills Baptist Church in Plano, TX, her church home.

For over 50 years, Bev traveled and served communities across the country and the people she called neighbors as a nurse, including close to two decades of service locally at Latrobe Area Hospital and most recently at Medical City Healthcare in Dallas, TX. She graduated from Penn State University (1974) with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and continued her education with a Master of Science in Nursing from Indiana University of Pennsylvania (1985).

Bev was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her son, Jason Yakelis of York, PA; two granddaughters, Zoe Yakelis and Sage Yakelis; and her brother and sister-in-law, Bob & Sue Doak of Blairsville.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, May 12, 2026, from 6 to 8 PM at the Shoemaker Funeral Home, Inc., 49 N. Walnut St., Blairsville, PA. A funeral service will be held in the funeral home on Wednesday, May 13th at 11 AM with Pastor Robert Penrose officiating.

Interment will be in the Blairsville Cemetery, Blairsville, PA.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations to Samaritan’s Purse (www.samaritanspurse.org), an international relief ministry she continually supported as she traveled throughout the country.
