Carol L. Bernie

Carol Loretta (Lorditch) Bernie, 87, of Indiana, passed away peacefully at home on Jan. 30, 2026.

She was born Feb. 25, 1938 in Reinholds, to Bernard and Anna Mary (Ulrich) Lorditch.

Carol was a graduate of United High School in Armagh in 1955 and later went on to receive her registered nurse diploma from Indiana Hospital School of Nursing in 1971. Throughout her career, she worked as a private duty nurse, a staff nurse for the Visiting Nurses Association, and an Emergency Room nurse at Indiana Hospital. Carol went on to become a staff nurse and supervisor of nursing at Indian Haven Nursing Home, and later at Cameron Manor Nursing Home. She worked as a nurse in a private practice until her retirement. Carol was an avid gardener and loved to spend time outside tending to her pristine flower beds. She was fascinated by genealogy and spent decades extensively researching and documenting her family tree. Carol was formerly on the board of the Historical and Genealogical Society of Indiana County. She was proud of her impressive collection of Snow White memorabilia, and she enjoyed watching Pittsburgh Pirates games on TV. Most of all, she loved spending time with her family.

Carol is survived by her loving husband of 52 years, Barry W. Bernie, of Indiana; her daughters: Cindy (Stoner) Town, of Indiana; and Susan (Stoner) Michrina, of Duncansville; her grandchildren: Jim (Becky) Randolph, of Greensburg; Dan (Amber) Randolph, of Murrysville; Matthew Michrina (partner Kylea, of Altoona; Courtney Michrina (fiancé Caleb), of Duncansville; her great-grandchildren: Kimber Randolph, Liam Randolph, Serena McCaulley, Amanda McCaulley, Camden Randolph and Arabella Randolph; and her many nieces and nephews.

Carol is preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Robert K. Stoner; her seven siblings: Betty Barber, Gladys Reinhold, Ruth Pavlick, Mary Dickert, Bernard Lorditch, Jr., Diana Cicon and Judy Anderson; and her son-in-law, Mark Michrina.

Following Carol’s request, there will be no visitation. Arrangements are entrusted to Robinson-Lytle-Shoemaker Funeral Home, 36 N. 7th Street, Indiana. A private interment will be at a later date.
