Cora Eva (Geneva June) Empfield went to be with the Lord on May 7, 2026.
She was the daughter of John T. and Anna Maye (Bender) Henry, born in Heilwood, on Feb. 18, 1927. Geneva was married in 1948 to William Martin Empfield for 50 years, he passed away on Nov. 4,1998.
Geneva spent most of her life in Nolo, as a homemaker and working at Stutzman Brother’s Farm, King Leather and Robert Shaw in Indiana. She moved to Oak Ridge in 2015 with her daughter and son-in-law. The last 16 months were spent in The Courtyard Assisted Living. Geneva was a member of Belsano Methodist Church and First Cumberland Presbyterian Church, Oak Ridge, Tenn. She enjoyed crocheting caps for newborns and cancer patients, as well as sleeping mats for the homeless. Geneva lived her life defined by deep faith, strength, a sense of humor and kindness that will be deeply missed. The family would like to thank the loving staff at the Courtyards and Amedisys Hospice.
She had two surviving children: Kenneth William (Cheri Duvall) and Donna Lee (Richard Dean Binnie). She is also survived by four grandchildren: Amy Binnie Martin (Nick), Eric Binnie (Lisa), Robert and Stephen Empfield and three great grandchildren, Andrew James, Katelyn, and Nathan Martin; sister-in-law, Edna Henry, and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was proceeded in death by 10 siblings.
Friends and family will be received from 10 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 11 a.m. Monday, May 18, 2026, at Robinson-Lytle-Shoemaker Funeral Home, 36 N 7th Street, Indiana, with the Rev. Barry Ritenour officiating. Interment will be in Edwards Memorial Cemetery also known as Belsano United Methodist Cemetery in Belsano.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First Cumberland Presbyterian Church, CPWM Fund, 127 Lafayette Drive, P.O. Box 4836, Oak Ridge, TN, 37831.
