Dennis John Loughry, 78, of Blairsville, PA passed away on Monday, June 23, 2025, at his home.
The son of Robert W. Loughry and Betty Jane (Wright) Loughry, he was born on January 18, 1947, in Latrobe, PA.
Dennis graduated from Blairsville High School, Class of 1965 and was a veteran of the United States Army, where he proudly served our country.
Upon returning to civilian life, Dennis worked for twenty-five years as a miner at Tunnelton Coal Mine.
Dennis was a direct descendant of Robert the Bruce, who reigned as the King of Scots from 1306 until his death in 1309. Robert the Bruce fought successfully during his reign to restore Scotland to an independent kingdom and is regarded in Scotland as a national hero.
He made lasting impressions on his friends at the Derry Rod and Gun Club, of which he was a lifetime member. Dennis was also active in the Slovak Club of Loyalhanna, PA, and he was a member of the United Mine Workers of America. He also served as a lifetime member of the VFW Post #5821.
Surviving is his daughter, Jessica Stinour of Richmond, VA; grandson Parker; two sisters, Pamela Fallon of Mars, PA, and Debra DiNunzio of Rehoboth Beach, DE; and several nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents and his stepfather, Alfred “Fritz” DiNunzio.
Per the family’s wishes, there will be no visitation.
Inurnment will be in the Blairsville Cemetery and will be held at a later date.
The Shoemaker Funeral Home, Inc. 49 N. Walnut St., Blairsville, PA has been entrusted with the arrangements.
