E. Ruth Batik, 91, of Cherry Tree, died Monday, Nov. 13, 2023, at Beacon Ridge.
Ruth was born Nov. 23, 1931, the daughter of Clyde and Martha Lily (Montgomery) Coalmer, in Dixonville. Ruth married John Batik (God’s choice man for her) on June 4, 1960.
She is survived by a daughter, Jonette Batik, of Saltsburg; a niece she helped to raise, Linda Lee Detwiler and husband James. The following nieces and nephews: Kevin Coalmer, Shirley Oblinsky, Doris Kinney, Barbara Chind, Mary Ann Galando, Marianne Brauner, Patricia Kukla, Kris Neale; and a number of great nieces, nephews and cousins also survive her.
Ruth was preceded in death by her parents; her husband John; a daughter, Ruth Ann; brothers, Richard Coalmer and Earl Coalmer; and sisters, Margretta Coalmer and Erma Henry.
Ruth grew up in the Twolick Baptist Church in Dixonville, where she served as a trustee, treasurer and taught the Ladies’ Class for many years. In recent years she had attended the Cookport Baptist Church where Ruth enjoyed the fellowship and led a monthly Ladies Bible Study.
For many years Ruth was active in PTA offices locally and at Council, District and State, where she served as State Treasurer for two terms. She also organized the first PTA in Indiana County at Purchase Line High School. Ruth served on the Local Board of Elections for 35 years, Secretary/Managers Board of PSATS, RTAP Board, Solid Waste Authority, Indiana Library Board, PROSPER Board, and the INDIGO Board. Ruth was a part of the Green Township High School Reunions and enjoyed seeing “Old Friends” again. She loved reading, God’s Word and poetry especially, people, flowers, birds and travel.
Ruth was employed by Dean’s Diner, Kline Motors, S&T Bank, Purchase Line School District, Green Township, as Secretary/Treasurer and as a Supervisor, Indiana County Planning Office, the First United Methodist Church in Marion Center and finally as an Avon Representative.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Robinson-Lytle-Shoemaker Funeral Home, where a funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, with Pastors David Krivonick and Calvin Duvall officiating. Private interment to follow in Salem Cemetery, Cherry Tree.
