Edla “Eddee” Marie Lentz , 89, of Indiana, passed away on Monday, July 13, 2026 at Homewood Living, Martinsburg.
A daughter of the late Lincoln A. and Sylvia S. (Halldin) Lentz, Edla was born May 15, 1937, in Indiana. Edla was one of two brothers and five sisters and was a proud graduate of Indiana High School and Indiana State Teachers College. Ms. Lentz devoted 35½ years to education as a social studies teacher in the Everett Area School District, where she also served as chairperson of the Social Studies Department. In recognition of her dedication and excellence in teaching, she was named to Who's Who Among America's Teachers in 1991.
A lifelong believer in serving her community, Edla was an active member of Everett Methodist Church, where Ms. Lentz served on numerous committees and was the director of Vacation Bible School. Her commitment to children and families extended to her service on the Board of the Rainbow Children's Day Care Center. Edla also dedicated many years to civic service. She served on the Everett Planning Commission and was one of the authors of the borough's Subdivision and Land Development Ordinance. Ms. Lentz played an important role in helping the Borough of Everett obtain Historic District designation and later served as a member of the Everett Borough Council. Ms. Lentz was a lifetime member of the Pennsylvania State Education Association and a member of the National Education Association. Edla was also an active member of the Bedford County Chapter of the Pennsylvania Association of School Retirees, where she chaired the Legislative Committee. Her community involvement included membership in the Everett Lioness Club, Everett Rotary Club, Bedford County RSVP, and the Everett Bloody Run Historical Society. Edla found great joy in painting, photography, hiking, bicycling, and gardening. As an avid traveler, she enjoyed exploring new places and creating lasting memories with family and friends. Edla will be remembered for her dedication to education, her love of community service, and the kindness and generosity she shared throughout her life.
Edla is survived by a brother, Timothy W. Lentz, of Johnstown; sisters, Ida Batulis (John) of Odesa, Delaware, Loraine Williams (Tom) Plantsville, Connecticut, Jamie Wetzel of Marion Center, Margy Chambers (Terry) of Northeast, MD, Evelyn Lentz, of Indiana; and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews. Edla was preceded in death by a sister, Carol Sue Pierce; brother, John Lentz; brothers-in-law, Chuck Wetzel, Clair Pierce; and sister-in-law, Sharon Lentz.
Friends and family will be received on Thursday, July 23, 2026, at Robinson-Lytle- Shoemaker Funeral Home, 36 N 7 th St., Indiana from 2:00 p.m. until the time of the service at 3:00 p.m. with Pastor Bill Blair officiating. Interment will be in Oakland Cemetery, Indiana.
