Edna Golden went home to be with her Lord and Savior on February 15, 2026. She had been a resident of Indiana, Pennsylvania since 2019. Prior to moving here, she and her husband Roland raised their family in Vienna, Virginia; Farmington, Minnesota; Independence, Virginia; and Brooksville, Mississippi. Edna was born in Batesville, Mississippi in 1937, the daughter of John Shuford Dickins Jr. and Pauline Zoriah (Miller) Dickins.
Edna graduated from Batesville High School and continued her education by attending
Mississippi State College for Women (MSCW), graduating in 1958 with a degree in Mathematics and a minor in Science. While attending MSCW she served as President of the Physics - Chemistry Club and was a member of Kappa Mu Epsilon. Throughout her life she had a great aptitude for numbers and mathematics. It was also while attending college that she met the love of her life, Roland. They went on their first blind date and were inseparable from that point forward.
Edna taught high school mathematics from 1960 to 1964 after which she became a homemaker and raised 3 children. She also worked for many years doing accounting work for various businesses.
She was a loving and supportive wife and a caring mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. It was commonplace for her to be on the floor playing with the kids,
even as the floor became more and more difficult to get up from. She loved hearing the exclamation “Granny!” as she received a running hug from a grandchild or great-grandchild.
Edna was a beautiful and elegant lady who enjoyed hosting get togethers and card clubs in her home, as well as displaying a wide array of knick-knacks on her shelves. Her personal favorites were birds and cows. She was an avid sports fan. It was crucial every spring to make sure the TV was set up properly to see her Washington Nationals in action. To say that she had a green thumb would have been an understatement. She took great pride in the variety of flowers and shrubs growing all around her home and cared for her plants dearly. Upon seeing a damaged or dying plant she would often respond with the sentiment “Oh, bless its heart.”
Above all else though she loved the Lord and attended services faithfully. Throughout her life she kept her faith strong and her family takes great joy in knowing where she is today. Most recently she was a member of Hilltop Baptist Church in Indiana, Pennsylvania. Prior to this she was a long-time member of Providence Baptist Church in McClean, Virginia and served as the head of the Prime-Timers group for many years.
Edna was greeted in heaven by her parents; her brother, John Shuford Dickins III; her eldest son, Roland Stanford Golden Jr., her great-grandson, Oliver, and her husband of 68 years, Roland Stanford Golden Sr., who passed just 7 months prior to her. Together again forever.
She is survived by her brother, Bill Dickins and wife Ann; her sister Harriet Westmoreland and husband Harold; her sister-in-law Jerri; her daughter-in-law Carol (Smith) Golden; her daughter Cathy Hildebrand and husband Chip; her son Kevin Golden; grandchildren Amanda, Sara, Chris, Steven, Joseph, Michael, Rebecca, and Sean, and many great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at Hilltop Baptist Church, 4859 Rte. 286 Hwy W, Indiana, Pennsylvania on Saturday, March 14, 2026. Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM with a service to follow at 11:00. Arrangements have been entrusted to Robinson-Lytle-Shoemaker Funeral Home, 36 N 7th Street, Indiana, PA 15701.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to 365 Hospice of 115 S. Main St., Carrolltown, Pa. 15722.
