Elizabeth K. "Betty" Bowers

Elizabeth Kay “Betty” (Jellison) Bowers, 79, of Blairsville, PA, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 8, 2026, in Independence Health System Latrobe Hospital, Latrobe, PA.

The daughter of Regis H. and Susan Ann (Hammill) Jellison, she was born on November 25, 1946, in Latrobe, PA.

Betty was a member of SS Simon and Jude Catholic Church, Blairsville.

She graduated from Blairsville High School, Class of 1964.

Betty was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. Her greatest joy in life was her family. She would never miss her children’s or grandchildren’s sporting events, whether near or far. She was extremely generous, always putting the needs of others before her own, and took loving care of everyone she cared about. When she was not spending time with her family, she could be found enjoying time with her many friends. Betty also loved to travel, dance, and cook for her family. She filled her home with laughter, warmth, and love. She would brighten the room with her smile.

She is survived by her loving husband of 57 years, David L. Bowers of Blairsville whom she married on December 28, 1968; her children, Joel Bowers (Tammy) of Blairsville, and Jessica Scardina (Brandon) of Indiana; six grandchildren, Hannah, David, Sophia, Marco, Alyson, and Emily; two sisters, Sue Ann Thompson of Muskegon, MI, and Regina Barton (Ralph) of Murrells Inlet, SC; a brother, Joe Jellison (Elaine) of Blairsville; and several nieces and nephews.

Betty is preceded in death by her parents, and a brother Jack Jellison.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, January 11, 2026, from 4 – 8 PM at the Shoemaker Funeral Home, Inc., 49 N. Walnut St., Blairsville where a wake service will be held at 7:30 PM. Prayers of Transfer will be held in the funeral home on Monday, January 12th at 10:30 AM followed by a funeral Mass at 11 AM at SS. Simon and Jude Catholic Church with Fr. Joe Pham, celebrant.
