Father James M. Goldberg, passed away on October 9, 2025, at the age of 83. Father served as a priest in the Diocese of Greensburg for 36 years.
A son of the late Clinton and Jennie McNulty Goldberg, Father Goldberg was born in Blairsville, Nov. 19, 1942. He attended primary school at his parish SS. Simon & Jude and graduated from Blairsville/Saltsburg High School. He attended seminary at St. Fidelis College, Herman, Butler County, for two years, and then spent four years at Mount Saint Mary, Emmitsburg, Md.
He was ordained to the priesthood May 1, 1976, at Blessed Sacrament Cathedral, Greensburg.
During his time in ministry Father was assigned as Associate Pastor at Blessed Sacrament Cathedral, Greensburg in 1976, and then at St. Bernard of Clairvaux Parish in Indiana, PA in 1981. In 1985, he became the Parochial Vicar at Immaculate Conception Parish in Irwin. In 1987 he became Pastor at St. Michael, Glen Campbell and its Mission of Ss Peter & Paul, Arcadia.
In 1992, he became Pastor of All Saints, Masontown, and its mission St. Francis de Sales, McClellandtown. In 1994 he became pastor of St. Louis, Lucernemines. In 2002, he became pastor of St. John Baptist de la Salle, Delmont, and Administrator of St. Mary Parish in Export.
In 2008, he became a Senior Priest Active with pastoral responsibilities at St. Ambrose, Avonmore; St. Matthew, Saltsburg; and St. Sylvester, Slickville, with residence at St. Sylvester. Father Goldberg retired from active ministry in 2012. At the time of his death, he was residing at St. Anne Home in Greensburg.
Surviving is his sister, Helen Slusarcyk of Latrobe; his brother, Robert Goldberg of Luciusboro; a sister-in-law, Portia Goldberg of Blairsville; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Father Goldberg was preceded in death by his brother Wayne Goldberg, his sister Jane Kanouff, his brothers-in-law, David Kanouff and Joseph Slusarcyk.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, October 12, 2025, from 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM at the Shoemaker Funeral Home, 49 N. Walnut St, Blairsville, PA 15717. The funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Simon and Jude Parish Church on Monday, October 13, 2025, at 11:00 AM with Bishop Larry J. Kulick, J.C.L. celebrant.
Interment will be in SS Simon and Jude Cemetery in Blairsville, PA.
