George M. Evans

With family by his side, George Monroe Evans, 77, of Indiana, PA went to be with the Lord on Thursday, June 19, 2025 at Indiana Regional Medical Center.

The son of Benjamin Foster and Marian (Lytle) Evans, George was born on July 28, 1947 in Pittsburgh, PA and grew up in New Kensington, PA. George graduated from Waynesburg College in 1969 and began his career in accounting and finance as a CPA with Arthur Andersen & Co. in Pittsburgh. In 1976, he moved to Indiana, PA to join Rochester & Pittsburgh Coal Company as Controller, ultimately serving as Vice President and Treasurer until the company’s sale in September 1998. In 1999, George and longtime colleague Jeff Mack founded Evans & Mack CPA where George worked until retirement in December 2023. George was also a steady presence in community banking. He joined the board of Indiana First Bank (now InFirst Bank) in 1985 and became its Chairman in 1994, a role he held for nearly 30 years, until his retirement in 2023. George was deeply involved in the Indiana community, dedicating his time and expertise to a range of local organizations. He served on the boards of Indiana Hospital, the United Way, and the Salvation Army. He was a member of the Advisory Council for the Eberly College of Business at Indiana University of Pennsylvania and served for a time on the Indiana Borough Council. From 2002 until his passing, George also served as Secretary and Treasurer of the Board of the Oakland Cemetery Association. George was a devoted member of Graystone Presbyterian Church, having joined the congregation in 1977. He formerly served as an elder and was serving as a trustee of the church’s endowment fund at the time of his passing. George truly loved and appreciated the life God gave him. He was a people person who found joy in connecting with others—throughout Indiana, across Western Pennsylvania, and around the country.

George is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Karen A. (Kunkle) Evans of Indiana. Together they shared a wonderful, blessed life. He is also survived by his four children: Douglas Evans and his wife Jenna of Sebastopol, California; Sarah Stacy and her husband Chad of Sun Valley, Idaho; Jonathan Evans and his wife Kelly of Novi, Michigan; and Christopher Evans and his wife Robyn of Portland, Oregon. He was a proud grandfather to eleven grandchildren: Alexander Evans, Carter Stacy, Rachelle Evans, Quinn Stacy, Benjamin Evans, Arden Stacy, Nathan Evans, Marian Stacy, Wyatt Evans, Isaac Evans, and Henry Evans. George loved his family deeply, and his happiest moments were spent in their company. He was preceded in death by his parents.
