Grace Elizabeth (DePolo) Marlin, 90, of Indiana, passed away Saturday, Dec. 6, 2025 at The Fountains at Indiana, in Indiana.
A daughter of the late Philip and Grace (Smith) DePolo, she was born Jan. 28, 1935, in Windber.
She graduated from Indiana University of Pennsylvania, earning a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree in elementary education. She began her teaching career in 1958 at Thaddeus Stevens Elemantary School in Indiana Borough and then at the University School on the IUP campus, where she taught fifth grade and mentored university students over the course of 30 years until her retirement in 1998.
Grace was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother. She was an avid reader and lifelong learner. She enjoyed history and traveling to historical sites as well as many US National Parks and lighthouses throughout the country with her family. As her family grew, an annual family beach vacation to Sandbridge, VA, Sunset Beach, NC and Cape May, NJ became a treasured tradition that continued every summer for about 30 years.
Grace was a lifelong member of Graystone Presbyterian Church, where she was involved in Bible study groups and often volunteered by serving at funeral dinners and providing cookies for Sunday fellowship.
She is survived by a daughter, Laurie Wincek and husband James, of Millstone Township, NJ; a son, Richard Marlin and wife Kay, of Mechanicsburg; two brothers: Richard DePolo, of Windber; Robert DePolo and wife Katheleen, of Zelienople; three grandchildren: Jenna Beth Wincek, of Millstone Township, NJ; Samuel Marlin and wife Nicole, of Metuchen, NJ; and Thomas Marlin, of Philadelphia.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, William G. Marlin. She was also preceded in death by her brothers, Phillip DePolo and Thomas DePolo.
Family and friends will be received from 11 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 12 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 13, 2025 at Robinson-Lytle-Shoemaker Funeral Home, 36 N 7th Street, Indiana, with the Rev. Joe Stroup officiating. Interment will be in Oakland Cemetery.
