Joan (Strong) Howard, 95, of Indiana, passed away peacefully Thursday, July 24, 2025, at Moorehead Place.
A daughter of the late Clarence and Florence (Ashbaugh) Strong, Sr., she was born March 6, 1930, in Salina, Westmoreland County.
Joan lived most of her life in Shelocta, moving to Indiana in 2005. She was a retired Licensed Practical Nurse. For many years she enjoyed bowling in a league at Mohawk Lanes. Joan cherished spending time with her family.
She is survived by two children: Daniel Howard and wife Diane, of Indiana; Lisa Empfield and husband Craig, of Homer City; a sister-in-law, Hazelle Dorus, of Calif.; grandchildren: Chelsea (Wil) Pearce, Christopher (Laykin) Howard and Marissa (Grant) Ingalls; great grandchildren: Kylee, Kynslee, Karlee, Kallee, Bryar, Cru, Rowan, Luci and Blaire, along with many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, Blair E. Howard, whom she married June 18, 1949; an infant son, David; and three siblings: Marilynn, Clarence and Jerome.
There will be no visitation. A private graveside service at Ridgeview Cemetery will be held at the convenience of the family. Robinson-Lytle-Shoemaker Funeral Home, 36 N 7th Street, Indiana has been entrusted with the arrangements.
The family wishes to give special thanks to the staff of Moorehead Place and 365 Hospice for the incredible care and love given to Joan.
