John Edward Flickinger, 72, of Blairsville, PA (Derry Township), passed away Monday, May 4, 2026, at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh.

He was born April 29, 1954, in Johnstown, PA, the son of Ann (Flickinger) Lentz.

John was a 1973 graduate of Derry High School. He worked for Ralph J. Myers Roofing Company in Pittsburgh until retiring.

He was a member of the Derry Rod and Gun Club and enjoyed hunting and fishing with his sons and grandsons.

John spent his mornings enjoying coffee with friends at Dean’s Diner.

He will be remembered for his love of the outdoors, his quiet kindness, and the time he spent with family and friends.

Surviving are his wife of 51 years, Joyce M. (Hranko) Flickinger, whom he married September 7, 1974; two children, Jodi Steffey (Justin) of Blairsville and Justin Flickinger (Karen) of Blairsville; six grandchildren, Evan, Ian, Aiden, Damen, Alyssa, and Allen; and four siblings, Susie Flickinger of Latrobe, Jeff Lentz of Blairsville, Pam Lentz of Derry, and Tammy Lentz of Blairsville.

He was preceded in death by his son, Jeremy J. Flickinger, on August 2, 2015.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, May 7, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., in the Shoemaker Funeral Home, Inc., 49 N. Walnut St., Blairsville, PA.
