José E. Alicea

José E. Alicea, Sr, 82, of Blairsville, PA (Derry Twp.) passed away on Tuesday, September 19, 2023, in Independence Health System Latrobe Hospital, Latrobe, PA.

The son of Carmelo and Julia (Rivera) Alicea, he was born October 8, 1940, in Aguas Buenas, Puerto Rico.

José was a self-employed owner for J & S Truck & Auto, Derry Twp. for 34 years until his retirement.

He loved to work on cars and trucks and watch the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Surviving is his wife of 39 years, Sharon A. (Auen) Alicea, whom he married on September 1, 1984; five children, José E. Alicea, Jr. (Sue) of Hamburg, MI., Alice A. Britt of Detroit, MI., Richard Alicea of Michigan, Gail Brown of Trento, MI., and Debbie Palmer of Blairsville; nine grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; two sisters, Nina Cotto (Albert) of Brownstown, MI., and Carmen Lopez (Joe) of Belleville, MI.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Francisco; two daughters, Sandra Green, and Paula Dickson; son-in-law, Jimmy Britt; and grandson, Robert Britt.

The family will receive friends from 6 PM until the time of the funeral service at 8 PM on Saturday, September 23, 2023, at the Shoemaker Funeral Home, Inc. 49 N. Walnut St., Blairsville, PA with Pastor John L. Buchmann, officiating.
