Obituary

Linda Louise (Johnston) Murray, 87, of Blairsville, PA, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 10, 2026, at St. Andrew’s Village, Indiana, PA.

Born June 15, 1938, in Ligonier, PA, she was the daughter of the late John and Hazel (Tewes) Johnston.

Linda was a member of SS Simon & Jude Roman Catholic Church, Blairsville.

She was a graduate of Latrobe High School, Class of 1956, and Mt. Aloysius College, where she earned her associate degree in early childhood development.

Linda shared her kindness and patience with many children through her work as a teacher with Head Start, where she remained until her retirement.

Linda found joy in life’s simple pleasures. She loved reading, writing stories and poetry, tending to the flowers in her garden, going to the movies, and visiting casinos. Her creativity, warmth, and gentle spirit will be lovingly remembered by all who knew her.

Above all, Linda treasured her family. She is survived by her loving husband of 68 years, William J. Murray, whom she married on August 3, 1957; five children, William P. Murray (Connie Varescak) of Blairsville, Suzanne Jamison (Russell) of Lower Burrell, Kathleen Kiefer (John) of Mansfield, TX, Maureen Bonatch (Jamie) of Indiana, and Laura Hanselman (Carl) of Blairsville; eight grandchildren, Daniel, Nichole, Cody, Austin, Yasmine, Laken, Kalea, and Carl; three great-grandchildren; and her beloved cat, Varmit.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Ralph Johnston; and three cherished dogs, Mimi, Samson, and Pepper.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, June 14, 2026, from 6 to 8 PM at the Shoemaker Funeral Home, Inc., 49 N. Walnut St., Blairsville. A funeral service will be held in the funeral home on Monday at 11 AM with Pastor Scott Kifer officiating.

Interment will be in SS Simon and Jude Cemetery, Blairsville.

The family wishes to thank Monarch Hospice for their loving care.
