Madeline C. "Mattie" Shrewsburg

Madeline “Mattie” Carol (Diak) Snyder Shrewsburg, 86, of Blairsville, PA (Derry Twp.) passed away Wednesday, February 21, 2024, in the Communities of Indian Haven, Indiana, PA.

Born May 3, 1937, in Robertsdale, PA, she was the daughter of John J. and Ellen (Rubic) Diak.

Madeline was a member of the United Presbyterian Church, Blairsville, and the Order of Eastern Star, Lockbourne, OH.

She loved spending time and cooking for her grandchildren, going to Chestnut Hills Senior Center, and was a very talented seamstress.  Mattie cared for many family members and friends who fell ill, and often she was with those she cared for until the very end.

Surviving are three children, Dianna F. Messenger (Jim) of Blairsville, Calvin C. Snyder (Susan) of Blairsville, and Cyndi Machak of Blairsville; seven grandchildren, James, Zachary, Jessica, Mitchell, Hannah, Kayla, and David; eight great grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, first husband, Calvin C. Synder, Sr., second husband, C. Edward Shrewsburg, granddaughter, Carolee Messenger, brothers, Nick, Russ, Paul, John, Frank, Mike, George, Pete, and Fred, Sisters, Ann Lockwood, Kay Romoska, Helen Snyder, Mary Skvarka, and Mary Ann Diak, and a son-in-law, David Machak.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, February 25th, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM at the Shoemaker Funeral Home, Inc., 49 N. Walnut St., Blairsville.  A funeral service will be held in the funeral home on Monday at 11 AM with Pastor Jack Lucas officiating.

Interment will be in the Blairsville Cemetery, Blairsville, PA.
