Richard Mark Ashford, 61, of Trafford, passed away Wednesday, March 25, 2026, at Allegheny General Hospital, Pittsburgh.
A son of Joseph A. and Rebecca E. (Hranitz) Ashford, he was born Aug. 18, 1964, in Wilkinsburg.
Richard had been a union carpenter with Max Enterprise. He became a Cub Scout in elementary school eventually moving on to Boy Scouts, where he proudly earned the rank of Eagle Scout. Richard enjoyed curling bowling and lawn bowling. He loved history, you could easily call him a history buff. Richard also loved traveling.
He is survived by his father, Joseph A. Ashford, of Trafford; his fiancée, Carole Vranko, of Trafford; an uncle, Russell “Skip” Baker, of Export; and a cousin, Rebecca Jo Baker.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Rebecca E. Ashford.
Friends and family will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, March 31, 2026, at Robinson-Lytle-Shoemaker Funeral Home, 36 N 7th Street, Indiana. A Funeral Liturgy will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 1, 2026, at Ss Cyril & Methodius Orthodox Church, 520 Scott Street, Jeannette, PA 15644, with Fr. Michael Senyo as celebrant. Interment will follow in Oakland Cemetery, Indiana.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly suggests memorial contribution be made to Sandra Schmirler Foundation, 18 Burndale Road, Ottawa K1B3Y5 Canada (reference charitable number 871420410RR0001), or a charity of your choice.
