Richard “Rick” W. Stancombe, Sr., 77, of Indiana, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 25, 2025, at home surrounded by his loved ones.
Born in Indiana on Dec. 27, 1947, to Walter “Lefty” J. and Fannie E. (Kerr) Stancombe.
Rick graduated from Indiana Sr. High School in 1966. Following graduation, he entered the United States Army and proudly served our country. In 1967, he went to Vietnam with the 25th Infantry Division in Cu Chi. He received three purple hearts and a bronze star upon returning from the service. He also served one year in the National Guard. Rick attended the Independent Traditional Holiness Church in Indiana. He loved his country and faith. Rick worked for Season-All for five years, followed by Helen Mines for 22 years and after 18 years, he retired from the United States Postal Service in 2006.
He loved providing for his family. Rick was a member of the American Legion, a life member of the VFW, Disabled American Veterans (DAV), and the National Rifle Association (NRA). He enjoyed planting a garden and hunting. But Rick was best known for being a very hardworking man. He fought the long hard battle of cancer.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 58 years, Judy A. (Vann) Stancombe, whom he married on May 29, 1967; a son, Rick Stancombe, Jr. and wife Allison, of Johnstown; four siblings: Bob Stancombe, of Indiana; Sally Jobe, of Indiana; Pat MacBlane and husband Harold, of Smicksburg; Bonnie Toldi and husband Barry, of Indiana; four grandchildren: Jenna Stancombe, of Johnstown; Ryan Stancombe, of Indiana; Cassidy Stancombe, of Johnstown; Jorja Stancombe, of Johnstown; and a special nephew, Carson Capps.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two daughters: Kimberly “Kimmy” and Melissa “Missy”; seven siblings: Jim, Bill, Ruth Mottern, Tim, Ted, Peg Shirley and Jack; father-in-law, Harry “Sonny” Vann; mother-in-law, Betty Ferguson; and step father-in-law, William Ferguson.
Friends and family will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 28, 2025 at Robinson-Lytle-Shoemaker Funeral Home, 36 N 7th Street, Indiana, where a funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 29, 2025, with Pastor Randy Perry officiating. Interment will be in Oakland Cemetery.
