Robert Wayne Garmon, 89, of Murrysville, PA, formerly of Rainbow City, AL, passed away peacefully on Monday, August 24, 2026, at UPMC East in Monroeville, PA.
Born on May 23, 1937, in Gadsden, AL, Robert was the son of the late Robert Lamar. and Jeannette (McClendon) Garmon.
Robert honorably served his country as a member of both the U.S. Air Force and the U.S. Army. His service also took him overseas, where he served as a police trainer in Baghdad, Iraq, during the Gulf War.
Robert devoted much of his life to serving and protecting others through his work in law enforcement. He worked with the Blairsville Borough Police Department in the 1970s and went on to serve as Police Chief with the Homer City and Clymer Police Departments. He later continued his service in Rainbow City, AL, and with the Etowah County Sheriff’s Department until his retirement.
Robert found joy in life’s simple pleasures, including fishing, sharing a cup ofcoffee with friends, and watching soccer and baseball, especially the Atlanta Braves. He also had a special interest in 1950’s and 1960’s vintage cars. Most of all, Robert treasured the time he spent with his family in Pennsylvania and Alabama.
Robert will be lovingly remembered by his six children, Michael S. Garmon (Nancy) of Jeannette, Elizabeth “Bette” Garmon of Murrysville, Laura Garmon (Eric Kok) of Greensburg, Matthew Garmon of Blairsville, Robert Garmon of Charleroi, and Jason Moody (Katie) of Danielsville, GA; eight grandchildren; three great grandchildren; a great-great granddaughter; his sister, Emma Fuller of Roanoke, VA; his brother, William Mack Garmon of Atlanta, GA; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Robert was preceded in death by his wife, Sandra (Neeley) Garmon, and his first wife, Barbara (Murray) Duffner.
Family and friends will be received on Friday, August 28, 2026, from 5 to 7 PM at the Shoemaker Funeral Home, Inc., 49 N. Walnut St., Blairsville, PA. A funeral service honoring Robert’s life will be held in the funeral home on Saturday, August 29th at 11 AM with Pastor Barry Spencer officiating.
