Robert F. Kanyan

Robert Frederick Kanyan, 86, of Indiana, PA (Center Twp.) passed away on Monday, May 19, 2025, in Allegheny Valley Hospital, Natrona Heights.

The son of Joseph and Bertha (Szimiczka) Kanyan, he was born on August 27, 1938, in Indiana, PA.

He was a member of the Jacksonville United Presbyterian Church, Kent.

Prior to his retirement, Bob was employed by Syntron (FMC), Homer City, for 30 years as a machinist.

Bob enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping with Dwight and Vicki Gressley, and bird watching. He was an avid gardener who liked to try new varieties of tomatoes and peppers. Bob especially enjoyed spending time with his family and his “porch buddies”, Harold Kinter and Tony Staff.

Surviving is his wife of 60 years, Donna J. (Graham) Kanyan, whom he married on September 28, 1964, his son, John Robert Kanyan (Vickie Zimmerman); his daughter, Denise Lynn Harsh (Jack); four grandchildren, Robert A. Kanyan (Stephanie Harshel) of Latrobe, John J. Kanyan (Sarah Hahn) of Vancouver, WA, Courtney Kanyan (Tyler Steele) of Zanesville, OH, and Samantha Harsh Nixon (Douglas) of Holiday, FL; two great grandchildren, Anthony and Jocelyn Kanyan; his sister, Doris Treece of Peoria, AZ; his brother-in-law, Jim Igrisan of Livonia, MI; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Christine Wick and Betty Igrisan, two brothers, Edward Eugene Kanyan and Joseph Floyd Kanyan.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, May 27, 2025, from 10 AM until the time of the Memorial Service at 11 AM at the Shoemaker Funeral Home, Inc., 49 N. Walnut St., Blairsville with Rev. Richard Cassel officiating.

Inurnment will be in the Bethel Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Indiana.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting memorial contributions in Bob’s memory to the Jacksonville United Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 70, Kent, PA 15752.
