Sylvia A. Hill

Sylvia Ann (Steeves) Hill, 79, of Salix, PA formerly of Black Lick, passed away on Tuesday, January 6, 2026, at her home.

The daughter of Robert A. and Katiebelle (Bracken) Steeves, she was born on March 7, 1946, in Brenizer, PA.

Sylvia graduated from Derry Area High School, Class of 1964.

She was a nurse’s aide at Torrance State Hospital until her retirement in 2007.

In her spare time, she loved gardening, especially roses, cooking, but spending time with her grandchildren and caring for her family were her greatest joys in life.

Surviving is her husband of 60 years, Carl A. Hill whom she married on August 23, 1965; five children, Beverly Papinchak (Ed) of Salix, Debra Warren (Donald) of Ligonier, Frederick Hill of Ford City, Ronald Hill of Black Lick and Tammy Blystone of Acme; 20 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; 5 great-great grandchildren; and her sister, Rosella Squib of Greensburg.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son Carl E. Hill, her brothers, Fred, Richard, Edward, Bobby, David, and William Steeves, her sisters, Catherine Hill, Viola Trinder, and Ethel Steeves, her grandson, Damian Papinchak, and her great-great grandson, Waylon Long.

The family will receive friends on Friday, January 9, 2026, from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at the Shoemaker Funeral Home, Inc., 49 N. Walnut St., Blairsville. A funeral service will be held in the funeral home on Saturday at 11 AM with Pastor John Manon officiating.

Interment will be in the Blairsville Cemetery, Blairsville, PA.
