Thelma J. King

Thelma J. (Gibson) King, 82, of Blairsville, PA passed away on Tuesday, September 26, 2023, in UPMC Altoona, Altoona, PA.

The daughter of William L. and Madge (Whitfield) Gibson, she was born on March 10, 1941, in Westland, PA.

Thelma was a member of the First Baptist Church, Westland, PA.

She graduated from Hickory High School, Class of 1959 and worked as an LPN at Kane Hospital in Pittsburgh for 30 years.

Thelma enjoyed dancing and bowling, hosting family get togethers and decorating for the holidays.  Thelma loved being dressed up and always wore sunglasses.

Surviving are her four children, Douglas E. Reed of Blairsville, Damon T. (Mardith) Reed of Durham, NC, Darrel S. Reed of Pittsburgh, and Darcia A. Reed of Pittsburgh; nine grandchildren Logan, Alyssa, Damon, Braiden, Genevieve, Stephanie, Jamel, Jaycier, and Andrew; her great-granddaughter, Jai’Dynn; a sister, Edna Glasspie of Patterson, NJ; and a host of nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her grandson, Daejion Grant, three brothers, Douglas, Leroy, and Daniel Gibson and her sister, Elizabeth Calender.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday October 7, 2023, at 11 AM in the Shoemaker Funeral Home, Inc., 49 N. Walnut St., Blairsville, PA with Rev. Russell Whitfield officiating.
